I had surgery, and I spent 2 days in CIU, a week on the 4th floor, and they sent me to a nursing home to be trained on how to use my feeding tube. I had some troubles there and ended up coming back.

Ciara was the nurse on duty when I got to my room. She was there and got me all situated. My feeding tube was plugged from the nursing home. She tried to check the residual, and it didn’t work. This was a Friday night – 2 weeks before Christmas. 

My doctor got out of surgery and came to see if he could get it unplugged. That didn’t work. My doctor ended up having to change it. I hadn’t had nutrition for about 24hrs. It's time for Ciara to leave. About an hour went by.

Well, the next thing I saw was Ciara pushing my feeding tube pump into my room, setting it up, and getting my meds before she left. She spent 1 1/2 hours on Friday night, two weeks before Christmas, to help out a patient she didn't even know.

I say that’s what makes her stand head and shoulders above the rest of the nurses.

I told her to go home to your family.  Not her – she made sure I had everything I needed!
