Tom didn’t have to do anything about the situation, but instead he advocated for what felt right to him, and that was keeping the family together with their beloved wife and mother.
Tom advocated for an Amish family to stay in our hospitality housing. Tom found out the family was asked to leave the hospitality housing and called to arrange for the patient to stay longer.

The family was from Berne, Indiana, and had no transportation to come back to visit the patient. The family also didn’t have a phone. They would be unable to call to check on the patient or receive calls in an emergency. The family recognized Tom for going above and beyond for their family to stay together.

The husband of the patient explained it's their culture to surround their loved one with family while they’re ill. Tom showed compassion for the patient and family by advocating that they stay longer. The family was asked to leave due to overstaying the amount of time allowed in the hospitality housing.
