My mom has been a patient at St. Bernardine Medical Center for about a week and a half, and during this difficult time for our family, the nurses and staff have been kind, informative, and responsive. One nurse in particular has stood out. Rubi was on duty on days near the end of my mom's day before discharge to home hospice. That day was tough for my mom. After about 3 days of minimum pain and relatively increased mental clarity, that day, there was a lot of confusion and pain.

Rubi showed great attention and compassion to my mom. Rubi is a textbook example of what a nurse should be to their patients. What really stood out to me, however, was Rubi's extra care and concern for me. I spent my mom's last full day at St. Bernardine Medical Center not only attending to my mom but coordinating the final details with the hospice company for discharge. I do not have a background in health care so my new role as a primary caregiver was overwhelming to say the least and Rubi was there for me with support, advice, compassion in her words, and her hug were heartfelt and I'm unlikely to forget them because of Rubi's dedication to my physical well-being and emotional survival. I highly recommend Rubi as a recipient of the DAISY Award. Rubi truly deserves to be recognized as such a superhero. I wish everyone could have what Rubi has as a transition to the final chapter of their lives.
