Not only is Jesus Valdez consistently recognized and praised by families in the ICU, but he has also received many nominations for the DAISY Award. He frequently goes out of his way to ensure that the patients and families are cared for well. Families have described Jesus as compassionate, comforting, respectful, and prompt. They repeatedly comment on his approach by taking his time when providing explanations and making himself readily available to the patients and their families. Many families have shared that Jesus’ sense of humor has helped ease their difficult situations and allowed their loved ones to forget briefly that they are hospitalized because he placed a smile on their faces.  

Jesus provides high-quality ICU care to his patients and understands what is expected of him to care for his patients and carry out their unique plan of care, all while supporting his team. Regardless of what may lie ahead for the shift to come, Jesus consistently shows up to work with a great attitude and positive outlook. Colleagues have stated that when working alongside him, they know they are going to have a good day because Jesus will “have our backs.” Physicians go out of their way to recognize Jesus for the excellent and prompt care he provides; they know that their patients are cared for very well when Jesus is caring for them.
