Seeing that he was struggling to eat, she coordinated with dietary services to find foods he would enjoy and personally assisted him with meals when needed.
My father was admitted to the University Hospital. Ms. Oduro did a fantastic job of caring for my father. As the eldest daughter, I was in distress, worried about my father’s condition. On Tuesday, my father was placed in the hospital’s I-Blue unit. Ms. Oduro had a soothing, calm, and beautiful spirit. She alleviated my stress by being very patient with me and reassured me that my father was in good hands. She has helped my father with everything, including checking his blood pressure and more. She made sure I felt safe, leaving my father in her care. Ms. Oduro is truly a blessing to the I-Blue unit and the University Hospital.

Comfort is more than just a nurse—she is a true embodiment of compassion, dedication, and excellence in patient care. She consistently goes above and beyond for her patients, ensuring that they feel heard, valued, and cared for during their most vulnerable moments. One particular instance stands out, exemplifying her extraordinary commitment to nursing. Recently, Comfort cared for an elderly patient admitted for heart failure exacerbation. The patient was confused, anxious, and reluctant to eat or take medication. His daughter, who lived out of state, was extremely worried and felt helpless. Recognizing the distress of both the patient and his family, Comfort took it upon herself to bridge the gap. She spent extra time at the bedside, patiently reassuring the patient and explaining each step of his care in a way he could understand. She found out that he loved jazz music and took the time to play his favorite tunes softly in his room, instantly bringing a smile to his face. Seeing that he was struggling to eat, she coordinated with dietary services to find foods he would enjoy and personally assisted him with meals when needed.
Her care didn’t stop there—she also facilitated a video call with his daughter, ensuring she was informed and comforted, even from miles away. Her small but meaningful gestures transformed the patient’s hospital experience. By the time of discharge, he was not only clinically improved but also emotionally uplifted. His daughter later called the unit, expressing immense gratitude for Comfort’s kindness, saying, “She didn’t just take care of my father’s illness—she took care of his heart.” Comfort’s dedication to holistic, patient-centered care is a testament to the profound impact a nurse can have on patients. She is the kind of nurse who makes a lasting difference in the lives of her patients and their families, and for that, she is truly deserving of the DAISY Award.
