Nurse L’s compassionate care is evident through their actions, communication, and attitude, creating an environment where students, parents, and staff feel respected, supported, and valued.
Nurse L demonstrates compassion and a caring attitude towards students, parents, and staff by consistently showing empathy, active listening, and offering support in all situations. With the students, Nurse L ensures that students feel heard when they approach her with health concerns. She takes the time to offer them explanations to questions they may have or explain to them why it is not good or healthy for them to be doing something bad. She treats her students in a calm manner and all the students love going to see the nurse. Beyond the nurse’s station, Nurse L takes time to give back to the students. She makes sure to keep extra clothes and underwear for students, and she participates in Club Days by hosting a sewing club in which she provides students with materials to sew and crochet out of her own money. With the parents, she goes out of her way to make sure she explains things to them, she always contacts them if there is an incident at school, and she checks the allergies list to make sure students do not have allergies when parents bring items for class parties. For the staff, Nurse L works to keep everyone healthy. She keeps documents on staff health, she provides snacks, waters, juices, whatever is needed to staff funded from her money, as well as keeping the coffee station filled with coffee and coffee supplies. She creates a positive, supportive atmosphere. Nurse L supports staff members who may be diabetic and makes sure to educate staff on staying healthy. She is also a part of the Wellness Team. In all these interactions, Nurse L’s compassionate care is evident through their actions, communication, and attitude, creating an environment where students, parents, and staff feel respected, supported, and valued.

At the beginning of the year, every grade level has to visit the Nurse's Office to receive training in Stop the Bleed. During that time, the nurse signs out the first aid kits to teachers. She also places extra items for the first aid kits in teachers' boxes throughout the school. Each grade level has an emergency bag that they take with them on field trips that the nurse prepares. Nurse L meets with teachers when there are students in the class with a chronic condition. She provides the teacher with an overview of what needs to be done with the student. She provides the teachers with a copy of the Care Plans, and teachers receive a red paper with the student information that they keep in their student information folders. Nurse L also posts allergy signs in student classes to alert people that students in that class have allergies to specific items. Nurse L has a system for sending students to the nurse's room. Students need to come with an adult or a pass. When incidents happen in the school, Nurse L makes sure an incident report is completed and that the parent is contacted. When students are sent home for health reasons, Nurse L makes sure the database specialist is informed so attendance is correct.

Nurse L serves on the Wellness Team and sends out staff emails on different topics. She meets with the team to discuss different activities that can be done throughout the school year to promote health.

Nurse L participates in the School Leadership Team, the MTSS meeting, and the School Wellness Team. Nurse L works with parents to get updated immunization records, and she works with the ESOL teachers and Language Line to work with our ESOL parents to make sure they are compliant.

Nurse L keeps a clean and organized office. When there is a substitute in her absence, she leaves detailed notes regarding students who take medicine at school or what to do when students come to the nurse's office. She checks and makes sure that all equipment is working properly and keeps the nurse's office items stocked. She does not hesitate to volunteer for committees or to assist teachers with projects.

Nurse L goes above and beyond here at Pine Grove. We are extremely lucky to have Nurse L here with us and very appreciative of all that she does for the faculty, students, and parents.
