When I came in for surgery, I was in a place of deep physical and emotional pain. The procedure I needed wasn't related to the situation that I'm about to mention with shame in my heart, as I share this incident of a recent experience of domestic violence. But that part of my story was impossible to separate from how I felt walking through the hospital doors. I was vulnerable, unsure, and emotionally raw. That's when I met Nurse Jeff.

From the beginning, Jeff didn't just treat me as a patient; he treated me as a whole person. He listened without judgment and with genuine empathy as I shared my story. There was no rush, no awkwardness, just presence, compassion, and a calm strength that made me feel heard and understood for the first time in a long while. What set Jeff apart wasn't just his kindness, but his ability to offer real solutions and comfort in such a dark moment. He made me aware of resources and support systems I hadn't known were available, empowering me at a time I felt powerless.
