Yvette and Maryam embody everything a DAISY Nurse should be—selfless, compassionate, and dedicated to their patients' well-being.
I am honored to nominate two extraordinary nurses, Yvette and Maryam, for the DAISY Award for their compassionate and dedicated care of my daughter, T, during her recent hospital stay. T has epilepsy and was admitted for a stereo EEG, which required her to be weaned off her anti-seizure medication.
Over the course of her five-day stay in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit, she endured multiple seizures, was confined to her bed in soft restraints for her safety, and faced immense emotional and physical challenges. Throughout this difficult time, Yvette and Maryam worked seamlessly as a day-and-night shift duo, ensuring T received the best possible care. Yvette, her day nurse, and Maryam, her night nurse, went above and beyond to make a difference in her experience. They not only provided excellent medical care but also took the time to connect with T on a personal level, offering comfort and reassurance when her anxiety was at its peak.
Both nurses showed incredible patience and empathy, taking extra steps to help T feel as comfortable as possible despite her limitations. They spoke to her with kindness, validated her feelings, and found ways to ease her distress, whether through gentle words, small gestures, or simply being present when she needed support the most. Their teamwork, professionalism, and compassion made a world of difference, not just for T but for our entire family. Yvette and Maryam embody everything a DAISY Nurse should be—selfless, compassionate, and dedicated to their patients' well-being. I cannot thank them enough for the impact they had on T’s care and our experience as a family.
