Amy was truly a light to have in what was perceived to me as a very stressful, exhausting, and worrisome day that I had started very early in the morning.
I unexpectedly ended up in the ER one morning due to experiencing sharp pain on the right side of my lower abdomen, which I had been experiencing over the past days. I was filled with anxiety going in, but after I was encouraged, I should get medical attention for what I was experiencing, as I was noticeably in a lot of pain. Once my initial screening was completed, Amy came into the room and introduced herself with the kindest demeanor, noticing that the ER wasn’t a place I wanted to be (or anyone wants to be). She walked me through everything she was doing step by step to help me get and feel more comfortable, given the situation. She explained thoroughly what to expect with each medicine injection I was given and provided excellent advice on what to do if and when those effects became apparent to me. Amy continuously, through my time in the ER came in and checked on me kindly, asking if I needed anything, if I needed anything to be more comfortable, & always reached out to find out what the next step was for me if I was unsure keeping me informed in the process from start to finish. Amy was truly a light to have in what was perceived to me as a very stressful, exhausting, and worrisome day that I had started very early in the morning. She had a conversation with me & truly made my time in the ER bearable, given the unfortunate reason that brought me in. I think Amy deserves a lot of recognition because I could tell that with that sort of approach, she has with her patients, truly does make a difference in their day. At the end of the day, nobody wants to be in the ER no matter what the circumstance, but I am glad to have met and had Amy as my nurse. She ensured I was good to go and got me all the things I needed to be comfortable.
I am currently completing the CLS program at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, expected to be done in May, so being able to get this flipped end of it was interesting as it allowed me to see a perspective of how all areas of the hospital work collaboratively. Amy was a big positive light in my day there & I won’t forget it as she assured me not to worry. I can’t thank Amy enough and the rest of the Aspirus Wausau ER department staff who helped get me adequate and supportive care, in trying to make me feel better. I am extremely grateful for everyone & their attentive care, it does not go unnoticed. I wholeheartedly nominate Amy for the next DAISY Award for her dedicated work in healthcare and for the care she provides to her patients. She surely made a difference in my day, I unexpectedly had, and she was there for me the whole time, very compassionate & nobody can ask for anything else in a time like that.
