If you talk to clients Laura has cared for over the years, you will hear descriptions of her as responsible, caring, knowledgeable, professional, wonderful, fantastic, gentle, and excellent—and all are true!
We are honored to nominate Laura Turner for the DAISY Award in recognition of the exceptional care, leadership, and advocacy she demonstrates as a home health RN. Laura embodies the highest standards of nursing, proactively seeking the latest best-practice methods and knowledge. Laura attended the New England WOCN Society’s annual conference this past fall to learn the latest information in caring for patients with ostomies, wounds, and urological issues. She also attended a week-long wound certification course at UVMMC in the fall of 2023 focused on wound care through the National Alliance of Wound Care and Ostomy.
Laura has been with Home Health and Hospice for nine years as an RN Case Manager and has demonstrated leadership, advocacy, and strong critical thinking skills in establishing and implementing an interdisciplinary plan of care to meet the needs of her clients. She has a reputation amongst her colleagues in Home Health and Hospice, as well as colleagues working in primary care offices, who oversee the care we provide, as a caring nurse with reliable assessment, communication, and critical thinking skills. Clients on Laura’s caseload appreciate her attention to detail, advocacy, and positivity.
One client has become so trusting of Laura over the years that they refer to her as their “#1 nurse”, and when considering alternate housing, insisted on only looking for housing in Colchester so that they could remain on her care team. If you talk to clients Laura has cared for over the years, you will hear descriptions of her as responsible, caring, knowledgeable, professional, wonderful, fantastic, gentle, and excellent—and all are true!
Most recently, Laura has accepted a new position in AHH as Admissions Nurse; a position that requires her attention to detail, extensive knowledge in home health nursing, and the ability to manage new and complex situations with the utmost safety and professionalism as a foundation for their plan of care. Laura can often be seen completing charting and care coordination diligently at the Prim Rd. office at the beginning and end of her day. She is a reliable support to her colleagues for input on clients, advice on navigating our EMR, and adds to the sense of camaraderie that makes Home Health and Hospice special. Because of Laura’s competence, patience, positive demeanor, and flexibility, our team often looks to her to precept nurses who are new to our agency so they can learn the art of home health nursing and spread her passion for this profession.
