My 93-year-old father was transferred to the SDU. The nurses called him ‘adorable’ – we joked that he had been called many things in his life, but adorable was not one of them. The nursing staff coordinated with Palliative Care and Hospice to make his journey as easy as possible. This allowed our family – children, grandchildren, and his one-year-old twin great-granddaughters to be with him. We had a chance to say goodbye. We never felt anything but support and care from the staff. Our family is beyond grateful for the professional excellence, compassion, support, and empathy demonstrated by every member of the staff we encountered.
