She put herself in the patient's shoes and had each of them walk her through each step from the moment they were diagnosed with a miscarriage, all the way to the decisions of cremation/burial.
SrA Tango received an email from a provider who had worked with a patient who had recently miscarried. The provider shared that the family had a hard time navigating private disposition with cremation and burial. SrA Tango went out of her way to reach out to the father and listened to their story and the struggles they endured.

She worked tirelessly over the course of 2 months with the father to create two different trifolds. Working through her lunch and staying late, she spent her time talking to many different people, including OBGYN providers, pathologists, 8 different funeral homes, 2 cemeteries, public affairs, and the chaplain. She put herself in the patient's shoes and had each of them walk her through each step from the moment they were diagnosed with a miscarriage, all the way to the decisions of cremation/burial. She spent the time to find funeral homes that offered free cremations for infant loss locally to decrease any extra financial stressors on the family.

She would share the drafts with the father and get their input, and make changes based on what they wished they had known. The first tri-fold goes over what the patients’ options are from the moment they get diagnosed with a miscarriage to the management of the miscarriage. The second trifold goes over the options the patients have when it comes to cremations and a funeral. Once the two trifolds were complete, she shared them with the ER and L&D, as well as reached out to the medical group chaplain and shared the information with him. She worked with him to get them shared with 32 chaplains, 27 religious affairs, including both Air Force and Army corps members who directly support all units at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, as well as five members of the EMH Team (True North mental health team). That scope spans the entire mission support group and their family members.

She spent over 80 hours working on this all because one patient took the time to reach out after their appointment to share feedback. Doing this, she ensured that the family going through that hardship would be given the chance to be able to properly grieve the loss and not miss out on the opportunity to have a cremation, burial, or funeral due to lack of information.
