Anamaria was searching for a female oncology patient who was eleven years old. The patient is receiving chemotherapy for acute myeloid leukemia. She was taking pain medicine and complaining of excruciating discomfort. The medical staff made numerous changes to her pain medication to manage her discomfort. Her suffering, nevertheless, shifted from physical to psychological. The patient began to state that since she would die anyhow, she didn't need to carry out any everyday tasks. She stopped using the restroom and refused to take a shower or take care of her hygiene. Despite being referred and seen by a psychologist, the patient continues to make inappropriate remarks.
Until Anamaria considered her options and came up with a novel way to assist her patient. With the patient's name, Anamaria developed and printed an appreciation certificate. She supported her patient, urging her to use the restroom and resume her regular activities as tolerated. The patient gradually responded to Anamaria's instructions until she was able to use the restroom and resume her regular hygiene routine. Anamaria presented the patient with the award during a brief celebration with the unit's nurses.
With great joy, the patient showed the certificate to everyone who entered her room. The patient moved to the pediatric unit after two days.
