I would like to take this opportunity to recognize the outstanding excellence shown by one of our own, Kat Purdy, on 4 North. Working side by side, I have witnessed Kat go above and beyond for her patients during her shifts, but I would like to highlight a situation.

On Sunday, Kat's patient rapidly began to decompensate. This patient, unable to speak on his own behalf due to an intellectual disability, faced a critical and complex situation. Kat immediately recognized the urgency and acted swiftly, escalating the matter and advocating fiercely for the patient and making sure this patient's family was able to get the opportunity to see their loved one for the last time.

While waiting for family to arrive, Kat sat in her patient's room, holding his hand, providing love and comfort during this transitional time for him. I have personally witnessed Kat's empathy and dedication during the worst days for patients and their families. She humanizes difficult situations, and not only does she do her best for her patients, but she also advocates for their families. What sets Kat apart is not only her clinical expertise but also her deep empathy and unwavering commitment to her patients' dignity.

In a challenging scenario where the patient could not advocate for himself, Kat became his voice, ensuring his needs were met with respect and compassion. This moment is just one example of the exceptional care Kat delivers every day. Her professionalism, dedication, and compassion exemplify the very best of nursing.
