Jen goes above and beyond the expectations of her coworkers and patients. I am very proud to nominate Jonalie (Jen) Topinio to receive a DAISY Nurse Leader Award for consistently making everyone feel valued and respected. This is especially true when she goes around the unit checking on all the patients and her staff. This is my last day here in her unit. I am grateful to everyone for allowing me to go home, but sad that I will not see Jen’s smiling eyes and bright face. On the second day of my stay in her unit, I felt her care and motherly love as she helped me settle on the bed, cleaned me up, and fixed my hair, despite her role as a manager. Even though she has a lot of phone calls during her time with me, she tried to focus on me and finish everything with patience. She took her time explaining to me what was written on the board and assured me that she had the best staff on the unit to take care of me. She really inspired me to continue with life and be positive despite hearing unpleasant news from the medical team. I will be forever thankful to everyone who took care of me, but most especially to Jen, who gave me hope and let me feel a sense of belongingness. Jen is a great asset to the unit.
