Tre is an extraordinary nurse who is amazing with all patients, but most specifically with psych patients. There was an instance where a child with autism was stuck in the psych hall for almost 3 months. He would often throw fits and become aggressive, and Tre was one of the only nurses who was able to calm him down. He is kind, patient, and great at his job, and this patient felt extremely safe and understood by him. This patient's story is quite sad. He has a mother who is not kind to him and brings him to the ER constantly to get him off her hands. Tre goes out of his way to make sure this patient feels heard. He would make jokes with him, talk to him like he was an adult, and listen to his needs. For Halloween, Tre and some other nurses bought a patient a Halloween costume and had the ER staff stand in a circle in the conference room, passing out candy to him. Tre has been called overhead multiple times to calm this patient down when he becomes aggressive. I once witnessed this patient tell Tre I love you while I was passing through the psych hall. As his coworker, he has told me how important it is to him that psych patients are treated with kindness and without judgment. Tre is currently in school to become a psychiatric nurse practitioner, and I believe he is going to thrive in that field. He truly deserves this award.
