I was brought to St. Vincent's from another hospital after nearly executing a plan to end my life. I was incredibly stressed, anxious, lost, hopeless, and defeated in every way. While there were a lot of lovely people who made my stay impactful, there was one person who left their mark on me.

From the moment I met Bret, he was empathic, welcoming, compassionate, and deeply caring. You could tell this wasn't a manufactured personality. You could just immediately tell that he was being genuine. That is incredibly rare. Brett's ability to make you comfortable and vulnerable is unparalleled. He utilized every single moment of time we had together towards my growth and progress. Everyone on the team tried to get me to look forward - but it was Brett who made me picture it. With his careful compassion and gentle repose, I was able to finally see the cracks in the once-inextinguishable maw of despair that was holding me in tightly in its hungering grasp. You can tell that Brett has a very real passion for his craft, his patients, and people in general. The world would be a better place with more Bretts in it.
