Lindsey's genuine interest and empathy made the patient feel heard and valued.
Lindsey, an inpatient wound nurse, was known for her compassionate care and dedication to her patients. She was called to BHU to assist with wound care for a patient. The patient had been through a lot and was wary of strangers. When Lindsey approached her, the patient firmly stated, "I don't trust anyone. I won't let you do it." Lindsey understood the importance of trust in patient care. She didn't push or insist. Instead, she sat down beside the patient and began a gentle conversation. Lindsey listened to the patient's concerns and fears, validating her feelings. Through this conversation, Lindsey discovered that the patient was open to learning how to care for her wound herself. With patience and empathy, Lindsey offered to teach the patient the steps of wound care. She explained each part of the process clearly and calmly, ensuring the patient felt comfortable and confident. Lindsey guided the patient through cleaning the wound, applying medication, and dressing it properly. The patient followed along, her initial reluctance slowly giving way to trust. After the wound care was complete, Lindsey didn't rush off. She spent a few extra minutes listening to the patient's story. The patient shared her experiences and her struggles. Lindsey's genuine interest and empathy made the patient feel heard and valued.

Lindsey sets a great example of care and compassion on our team. Lindsey's approach had made a significant difference, showing that sometimes, the most important part of care is simply listening and understanding.
