We arrived at Mount Nittany's Emergency Room via life flight with a very sick pediatric patient. The patient's mother was at the bedside. We made the decision to intubate this child prior to transport, due to the acuity of the patient and the risk for decompensation, which also caused us not to be able to transport the mother for safety reasons. This came as an obvious shock to the mother, and she was physically/mentally distraught, rendering her unable to safely drive.

Emily immediately offered to help the mother without hesitation. With approval, Emily clocked out of her shift early and drove the mother to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, a 1.5-hour drive, while pregnant, so the mother could have a safe ride to her sick child. 
 
I truly believe this selfless act deserves recognition. Emily went above and beyond for this patient and their family.
