It is with deep gratitude and admiration that I nominate Sheiva Richardson for the DAISY Award. As both a nurse myself and a patient under her care, I have been privileged to witness the exceptional blend of clinical skill, compassion, and creativity she brings to her practice. One moment that truly captured Sheiva's extraordinary approach happened when I observed her caring for a scared teenage patient who was terrified of getting an IV. Instead of brushing off the young patient's fear, Sheiva sat down at her level, asked her what her favorite kind of cake was, and then guided her through "blowing out the candles" using slow, controlled breaths to help her relax. Through this simple but profoundly thoughtful technique, Sheiva turned a moment of fear into one of trust and empowerment. It was a perfect example of how she brings humanity and heart to every interaction. As her patient, I experienced that same kindness and attentiveness firsthand. She anticipated my needs before I even voiced them, advocated for my comfort and well-being, and treated me not just as a diagnosis, but as a whole person. Even during busy moments, Sheiva made me feel truly seen and cared for, something that, as a fellow nurse, I recognize as the hallmark of an extraordinary caregiver. Sheiva is an inspiration to both her patients and her colleagues. She embodies the very spirit of nursing, combining clinical excellence with genuine compassion and reminds all of us why we chose this profession in the first place. I cannot think of anyone more deserving of the DAISY Award.
