Again, Julie was not only my nurse this night. She was my cheerleader and encourager.
Julie was more than just a nurse to me during my stay. Julie was my advocate, friend, and an extra support person through my 30-hour labor. I was privileged enough to have Julie as my nurse 3 nights in a row. She was my nurse the first night I came in, at 37 weeks for a planned induction due to preeclampsia. She was my nurse the night my daughter was born, and she was my nurse the first night we spent as a family of 3.
From the moment I met her, I knew I was in the best of care. Although my husband and I are healthcare workers, me a nurse and my husband a pharmacist, we were also first-time parents. The night I was admitted and the night of my induction, Julie was there with me every step of the way, ensuring my husband and I completely understood the plan of care. She took the time to explain everything that was happening and answered my many questions. She was there with me in the room each and every time my midwife came to check on me throughout labor.
Not knowing just how long my labor would be, Julie and I fully expected my daughter to be born during the day shift. Well, my little daughter had other plans. I labored all day. The moment Julie came on for the night shift, my labor quickly intensified. My BP began to spike, and Julie quickly took action. I was given labetalol and started on a Magnesium drip immediately. With worry in my husband’s face and tears in my eyes, Julie stood by our side and reassured us she would be there every step of the way.
Again, Julie was not only my nurse this night. She was my cheerleader and encourager. I truly do not think Julie left my bedside the entire night. My daughter was finally born at 2:41 am, and my husband and I could not be more thankful to have had Julie there as we welcomed our daughter into this world. My husband and I were blessed once again when Julie was back and our nurse the following night.
Our first day as a family of 3 was nothing short of amazing; however, it was quite emotional with trying to get our sweet baby to breastfeed and eat. The moment she came on for her shift, she quickly listened to our concerns and established a plan for the night that we felt comfortable with. Because of this, she was finally able to latch for breastfeeding. Julie completely ensured and cared for my physical, mental, and emotional needs each night she provided care to me. Myself, my husband, and our daughter could never thank Julie enough for her sweet heart and tender care she provided to all of us.
This is Julie's Second Award!
