She is conscientious, has a beautiful soul and a servant’s heart, which makes for an excellent nurse.
Sweet Krystle, aka Honey, because she is naturally sweet, embodies the true spirit of a nurse. After a rough go managing pain, she came into my room one night and said, “This is not working.” She was right, but that was just the beginning. She fully committed herself to a new plan in which I could be comfortable, and she could uphold her commitment to nursing and hospital regulations.
It started first and foremost with attention to my NG tube. It was not working properly, and she worked with it until it did, which took attention and commitment. Then she called the doctor to change my pain management protocol so that I would be able to rest for the duration of my medication window. I caught her in the middle of the night with her flashlight, checking to make sure my NG tube suction was working properly.
She valued my rest more than her own ease of just turning on the light. That was the first night that I truly rested. Do you think that was enough? I do, but she didn’t. She ran into my husband in the parking lot a day later, called him by name, and asked about me. Krystle is not just here to do her job, which she does very well. She is conscientious, has a beautiful soul and a servant’s heart, which makes for an excellent nurse. She deserves a field of daisies.
