Alicia Alcide serves as the Care Coordinator for the Multidisciplinary Clinic, specifically the Muscular Dystrophy Clinic. We have a mutual patient who is an amazing 18-year-old young man who is progressing towards the end stages of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. She helps coordinate his care in the clinic, and I provide supportive care at home. There have been several instances now, due to the complexities of the medical system, that this precious pediatric patient has needed support or medical care that was difficult to obtain or receive. Alicia is the kind of nurse who cares for her patients dearly and always goes above and beyond to help where she can. It never matters how challenging the task or how difficult the day, she is always positive and helpful. When I reached out to her to discuss severe pain and sleeping issues our patient was experiencing, she graciously reached out to the appropriate physicians to help coordinate care between the clinic and outside palliative care services. Her interventions helped our patient's quality of life tremendously, as well as brought much comfort and relief to his family. There are many, many more instances of this compassionate care provided by Alicia. She is truly an asset to your program and a blessing to her patients and their families.
