She validated her feelings and was kind to our family, who had no idea how to support my sister through labor.
I am the sister of the patient that Erin helped. My sister was life-flighted to Sacred Heart from Lewiston, ID, at 33 weeks and 5 days pregnant because she was in preterm labor and progressing quite quickly. When she arrived, she was told that she wasn't in labor and was brought to the antepartum side of the Birthplace. Erin was her nurse, and she was so kind! Every single step of the way, she waited for my sister to tell her what she wanted and what she was ok with. Erin was so encouraging to her when she needed to be. She validated her feelings and was kind to our family, who had no idea how to support my sister through labor. She also listened when my sister told her what she wanted to happen with the baby, remembered what she said, and even reminded her husband (baby's daddy) to let the NICU know what they wanted to be done with/for the baby. My sister wanted to have a natural delivery, so she encouraged her through that. Erin brought her things to use to help her get through labor and gave us tips and tricks to help her as well. She kept her calm (and us too!) while we were waiting for the Doctor to arrive and listened when my sister said she thought she was getting close to delivering her baby, so that the NICU was ready for him to be born. Afterwards, she was so kind, compassionate, and patient with my sister, who was sad to see her baby get taken to the NICU and in pain from birthing her baby. We really believe that Erin is a big reason that her delivery went so well and was as minimally traumatic as it could have been. Thank you, Erin! You are such a wonderful nurse, and your patients are lucky to have you. You will always be a part of my nephew's birth story and a huge reason why it is such a positive and happy story to tell.
