Bassam leads by example, especially in high-pressure moments.
It is with great pride and deep respect that I submit this nomination from Bassam, Clinical Nursing Director of Perioperative services, in recognition of his exceptional leadership to nursing excellence.
Bassam is a rare leader who combines clinical skill, emotional intelligence, and operational insight in everything he does. He has transformed our perioperative environment into one that is collaborative, efficient, and empowering for both staff and patients.
One of his most significant achievements has been strengthening communication between perioperative nurses and physicians. His efforts to build trust, foster respect, and encourage open dialogue have created a unified team that delivers safer, more seamless patient care.
In addition, Bassam has implemented critical improvements in billing and inventory management. His leadership has enhanced supply readiness, reduced waste, and contributed to the financial strength of our department - without compromising patient outcomes.
Bassam leads by example, especially in high-pressure moments. When our OR team performed its first HIPEC (Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy) case, he scrubbed in himself to support the team. When we launched our first robotic surgery, he supervised the entire process, ensuring everything ran smoothly and the team felt supported. His presence during these major milestones speaks volumes about his commitment and hands-on leadership.
Perhaps most inspiring is his belief in people. At a time when many would hesitate, he took a bold step and hired over 10 new graduate nurses into the OR. He invested in their development, stood by them through challenges, and gave them the tools to succeed. Today, those nurses are experienced, confident senior staff, an incredible reflection of his vision and mentorship.
