I met Katie in December 2024, when I was scheduled for surgery at the St. Francis campus. My surgery that morning was later cancelled due to concerns with my blood test results. Obviously, I was distressed at the cancellation after mentally preparing for such a major surgery and I decided I would not pursue further treatment for my issue. Katie advised me to take time to process everything, and she even told me she would personally make every effort to walk me through the next surgery starting in my Pre-op room, until I was safely in recovery.

On February 26, 2025, I walked into St. Francis for my surgery to find Katie waiting for me. She had switched shifts to work on her day off to keep her promise to me. I was immediately calmer and truly grateful that she was the nurse that would support me through the anxious moments leading to my surgery. Katie was patient, calm, reassuring and she had such remarkable energy that I felt confident in my decision to have my doctors operate. As promised, she followed my care until I was safely awake in my recovery room and then later transferred to my overnight room.
