Jessica’s integrity is incomparable.
At the end of March, I checked in at the ED for my alcoholism. I spent six days on a medical floor detoxing before joining the SARRTP program. I came here with nothing but the clothes on my back. Jessica noticed another Veteran giving me a few things that no longer fit him, and before I knew it, I had an awesome suitcase full of clothes to keep. I later received a pair of Air Force One sneakers and a pair of Crocs.
With my SSD debit card, I was able to get socks and underwear. When I mentioned I needed some hangers, which weren’t available here, Jessica brought in hangers with shirts on them and two back packs! She also provided me with hygiene products I didn’t know were available. She mentioned that these items were her husband’s and sons, and they were planning on donating them to goodwill anyway.
I’m still in the program and love it. I graduate April 28th, and they found me housing back in Charlotte. It was amazing to have clean clothes to change into after wearing the same outfit for 4 to 5 days, especially on those cold days. Yesterday, I was selected to be on the resident council. I’m so grateful to Jessica for all her help!

When you walk into a place like SARRTP, you’re often filled with fear and uncertainty. There’s so much to think about when you are planning to change your life through sobriety. On my first day, I felt overwhelmed by the noise and the chaos around me. But then, I heard Jessica’s voice. She was so welcoming and warm that I immediately felt more at ease. Jessica’s integrity is incomparable. She speaks confidently and knowledgeable, ensuring we understand everything we need to know.
Her commitment to the Veterans here is evident every day as she goes above and beyond to ensure we have everything we need, from medications, to advice, to directions. I know I can always ask her for help. She advocated for me when I was unsure about my medications and took the time to make sure I understood everything about them. The way she makes eye contact with each of us while speaking, her readiness to assist anyone who needs her, and her constant smile reflect the deep respect she has for us.
Excellence is an understatement when describing Jessica. You can ask anyone in this program, and I’m sure they will agree that she is one of our favorite RNs here. She sets the standard, overcoming every obstacle, solving every problem, and addressing every issue with dedication. Jessica truly cares! If that’s what this honor is about, she is winning at heart regardless.
