Sylvia's persistent advocacy to get the patient the needed medical equipment and plan of care clarification was a direct reflection on how well in tune she is in taking care of her patients.
I wanted to share a wonderful experience that one of your bedside RNs completed in taking care of and advocating for her patient. The RN is Sylvia Syfert, who was taking care of a patient who exceeded a weight of 700lbs in need of getting into a hospital's patient equipment to progress his care. Sylvia called around to find him the correct footwear, which she seemed to spend a good amount of time finding. She then stated that she was able to communicate with the ortho team to advocate for a safe plan to get the patient moving for rehab therapy. Sylvia's persistent advocacy to get the patient the needed medical equipment and plan of care clarification was a direct reflection on how well in tune she is in taking care of her patients. Without the effort and diligence that Sylivia provided, I don't believe that the patient would have progressed in his care as fast as he is currently doing. I hope that this example can help show others that one person can make a big difference in the care we provide our patients and how making ownership, like she did, can make a world of difference.
