Katina is a model of what it means to be an ethical nurse leader. She listens deeply, acts with integrity, and prioritizes justice, advocacy, and compassion in every aspect of her role.
I am honored to nominate Katina Landry for the DAISY Award for Nursing Ethics. Katina exemplifies ethical nursing leadership by consistently advocating for vulnerable maternal and neonatal patients, championing equitable care, and making values-based decisions that impact both individuals and the broader community.

Katina leads both the maternal and neonatal programs at Memorial Hermann Southeast. Her role is far-reaching, but she never loses sight of the human stories behind the data and operations. Her commitment to doing what is right—even when it's not easy—is evident in her everyday actions.

One powerful example of her ethical leadership is her work addressing maternal hypertension in underserved populations. Recognizing that some postpartum patients with hypertension could not afford home blood pressure monitors—a critical need for safety and survival—Katina took action. She collaborated with state agencies to secure donated blood pressure cuffs and developed an education program to ensure these patients could monitor their blood pressure at home. This initiative not only saved lives but upheld the nursing ethic of justice—ensuring that every mother, regardless of income, received the tools and knowledge needed to stay safe.

Katina consistently integrates ethics into her leadership. During state designation preparation, she advocated for accurate, transparent reporting and equitable access to care for all mothers and babies. She approaches quality improvement with integrity, aligning every initiative with what is best for patients and staff alike.

Her efforts extend beyond policy. She leads with compassion, empathy, and humility—qualities that create a culture of ethical care. Whether supporting staff during challenging moments, facilitating grief support programs like 'Refreshment for the Soul,' or mentoring others in their professional development, Katina’s decisions are always guided by respect for the dignity of others.

Katina is a model of what it means to be an ethical nurse leader. She listens deeply, acts with integrity, and prioritizes justice, advocacy, and compassion in every aspect of her role. Her impact is felt not only by those she leads but by every patient and family her work touches.

For her extraordinary commitment to nursing ethics and her dedication to equitable, compassionate care, I wholeheartedly nominate Katina Landry for the DAISY Award for Nursing Ethics.
