During my recent hospital stay, I had the privilege of being cared for by Britt, an Extraordinary Nurse whose compassion and attentiveness made all the difference during a very difficult time. I was in significant pain and unable to eat while the medical team worked to determine the cause, and throughout it all, Britt tended to me with great skill, gentleness, and an intuitive understanding of what I needed – even before I asked. Her calm and friendly demeanor brought comfort and reassurance even when I was feeling frustrated, moody, and vulnerable. The DAISY Award is a perfect name for this recognition because Britt truly was “a breath of fresh air” every time she entered my room. Whether it was offering a warm blanket without me asking, managing my care with expert knowledge or helping me navigate the food menu when I was allowed to eat again. She did it all with warmth & grace! She also suggested I get out of my tiny room and take in some natural light from a sunny window down the hall. That small gesture made such a difference in my day and helped me feel human again! It’s not easy being a patient, especially when you’re in pain far from home and unaware of what’s ahead. But Britt brought a sense of peace and care that eased my discomfort every time she stepped into my room. She didn’t just treat my symptoms, she saw me as a whole person and cared for me with genuine kindness!
