Kailyn is so much more than a nurse. She is the very embodiment of a compassionate soul. Yes, she attended to my call lights, followed my treatment plan and monitored my pain, but in the late-night hours of a long day and night for me Kaitlyn sensed I was emotionally struggling.

Although I never articulated this to her, she took the time to sit with me and give me the positive feedback and meaningful encouragement I needed then. She gave me compassion and caring at the precise moment I needed it. Although all the nurses who cared for me were absolutely wonderful, Kaitlyn stands out from the rest. She doesn’t just give time to her career, she also gives her heart.

It’s evident Kaitlyn has no idea of the importance she plays in the lives of her patients. She is a very unassuming spirit. But she helped me redirect my mindset and envision the possibility of my full recovery. Because of her, I was able to retrieve motivation. She embodies the kind of nurse J. Patrick Barnes’ family wanted to recognize. Kaitlyn will continue the mission and legacy of the DAISY Award Program because she works from her heart.
