His kindness, patience, willingness to educate, and profound empathy made an incredibly difficult time more manageable for our family.
I am honored to nominate Carl-Davies for the DAISY Award, recognizing extraordinary compassion and dedication during my mother's recent hospitalization. He embodies the very best of nursing, providing not just medical care, but profound human kindness.

My mother lives with dementia, which often leads to confusion and fear, especially in an unfamiliar hospital setting. During her stay, while awaiting a pacemaker, his approach to her was consistently gentle, gracious, and remarkably patient, speaking to her in a reassuring, gentle tone of voice, often saying, "It's okay," which brought her immense comfort. The ability to connect with her, even in her moments of confusion, was truly a gift.

Beyond a compassionate demeanor, Carl demonstrated an outstanding commitment to ensuring our understanding of medical information. Tending to her with such kindness, he also offered reassurances and clear explanations of processes, recognizing her challenges of processing. He took the extra time needed to explain things thoroughly, ensuring we fully grasped what was happening. This level of dedication to patient and family education is rare and deeply appreciated. He even shared an encouraging story and previous experience caring for a patient with dementia, which provided us with comfort and a sense of hope during a very difficult time.

Perhaps the most striking example of his exceptional care occurred late one night, around 11 PM, returning to her room specifically to check on my mother, even though he was not her assigned nurse. He simply wanted to ensure she was okay after her surgery. This act of selfless concern, going above and beyond duties to provide comfort and reassurance, speaks volumes about character and deep commitment to the patients' well-being. His kindness, patience, willingness to educate, and profound empathy made an incredibly difficult time more manageable for our family. A shining example of compassionate nursing, and I believe truly deserving of the Award.
