Becca is an innovator who recognizes the importance of adapting teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles.
Becca Wing excels in her role as a Nursing Development Practitioner and is truly deserving of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurse Educators. Her passion for mentoring nurses, students, and all healthcare professionals at MPH is inspiring. Over the past eight years of working alongside Becca, I have been impressed by her creativity in making education engaging and meaningful, her desire to mentor team members and peers, and her dedication to professional development.

Becca is an innovator who recognizes the importance of adapting teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles. She has a unique energy that engages team members and makes learning enjoyable. For instance, whether she’s recording a video of a mock patient scenario or demonstrating suprapubic catheter care with a urinary catheter tube in a lid bucket, she aims to reach her learners and make the material meaningful. Her vision and execution of a Patient Experience video for our recent nursing skills fair not only entertained team members but also helped them understand the significance of nursing best practices.

She is currently seeking assistance from our BayCare innovation team to create a new educational channel featuring short videos that mimic social media. Her goal is to make education readily available and easily accessible, allowing team members to quickly grasp and effectively perform unfamiliar procedures or skills while captivating their attention with new initiatives.

Becca is a leader who played a pivotal role in launching the West Region’s Education Department Professional Practice Council, where she serves as Chair. Under her leadership, the council has successfully amplified our team’s voices and facilitated improvements within the department. Her latest project involves creating a yearbook-style education directory to help new and existing educators understand everyone’s roles and responsibilities within the department.

Becca consistently takes on challenges, regardless of the size of the project. She recognized that our Indwelling Catheter Protocol module on the OLC was outdated and spent over a year updating the material and navigating the approval process to ensure it is rolled out to all team members. She leads numerous peritoneal dialysis education rule-outs and initiatives within BayCare and serves as our PD champion at the hospital, assisting with the Dialysis Internship and teaching PD classes while guiding fellow educators at other campuses.

Becca is known as the "RQI queen" at MPH. This role is often thankless, especially when she has to address the creative ways team members tamper with or manipulate mannequins when they’re not functioning properly. She continuously maintains the RQI stations, ensuring they are updated and operational, which often involves troubleshooting and changing out equipment.

As a mentor, Becca genuinely cares about the well-being of her team members. She is available 24/7, and they feel comfortable discussing their accomplishments or frustrations with her. She serves as a cheerleader for them, providing a safe space to talk. Becca also displays a true passion for educating preceptors, helping ensure our future nurses and PCTs succeed. She teaches the Preceptor Academy for nurses and the EAYL PCT Internship.

Beyond her role as a mentor, Becca is an amazing colleague. Whenever someone from our MPH education team needs assistance, she is the first to volunteer or lend a helping hand. She is a one-of-a-kind educator and a true DAISY. Balancing many responsibilities, she excels in every role she takes on. Her impact on professional and team member development is outstanding and truly deserves recognition.
