His personal attention and genuine kindness made a huge difference in my daughter's recovery.
My daughter had surgery in early 2025 and was hospitalized for several days. Her surgery was major, and afterwards she was in a lot of pain and discomfort, along with being very scared. I stayed in the room with her throughout the duration of her hospitalization. It was a difficult time for both of us.
On her first evening in the hospital, my daughter’s night nurse was Sean. She was lucky enough to have Sean take care of her for the first three nights. Sean made everything easier and better. He was incredibly kind, understanding, and compassionate, not just to my daughter, but to me as well. Whenever Sean would ask my daughter if she needed anything, he would also ask me too. That was a big comfort to me, considering I was staying in the room 24/7. Being a caregiver in a hospital room is not the most comfortable thing, and Sean did what he could to make things easier for me.
I was impressed with Sean's knowledge and professionalism. He explained things to her and me in a way we could understand, and it was evident that he is very smart and really knows what he is doing. At one point, he had a student nurse shadowing him, and it was wonderful to watch Sean teach this young man. Teaching is not an easy skill, but it seemed to come naturally to Sean.
I was most impressed with Sean's level of genuine caring. He spent time talking with my daughter and getting to know her. He always made sure that she knew he was taking her problems and concerns seriously. I can't emphasize enough how important that was to my daughter. He checked on her frequently, and he never made either one of us feel like a bother. That was a real comfort to both of us. It is sometimes hard to ask for assistance, but Sean always made us feel like it was his pleasure to help.
We encountered many nurses throughout our stay at Sanford. They were all polite and did their jobs well, but none had the impact that Sean did.
