Kyle arrived at work and assumed care of a post op spine surgery patient. Upon assessment, he noticed that the patient was starting to develop new-onset weakness and numbness, which had not been present prior. Kyle used his assessment findings to escalate this patient’s condition. Notifying the provider and neurosurgery team- an emergent MRI and imaging was ordered to determine the severity of this patient's condition and her current state. Kyle remained calm, reassuring, and updated the patient and family with any information he could. His assessment was crucial in escalating this patient’s changing condition. He advocated and spoke up when he knew something was wrong. Throughout his shift and this situation, Kyle ensured the patient was safe, comfortable, and aware of what exactly was going on. Thankfully, the patient will continue to progress in a positive direction. This is just one situation where Kyle has gone above and beyond for his patients, and I am so lucky to work side by side with him each day.
