My mom is not a native English speaker and often needs instructions repeated. Due to the language barrier, she is forgetful. She is often met with resistance and annoyance from medical staff. Her nurse, Brandy, was incredibly gentle and kind in her interactions with my mom. She displayed patience and professionalism, characteristics that feel like a lost art in medicine.

Brandy took the initiative to explain my mom's past diagnoses, like sleep apnea and GERD, to my mom, simply to help her understand some of the prep questions and why they were being asked. She also touched on the evolutionary aspects of sleep medicine to attempt to encourage my mom to seek out a CPAP machine that suited her better, since my mom doesn't use hers. It was impressive that Brandy took a moment to share the benefits of using a CPAP machine with my mom, seeing as it could make a significant difference in the quality of her life. She selflessly went above and beyond in her interactions with my mom, and I can only imagine how much of an impact she's left on families who had the privilege of having her as their nurse for longer-term care.

Anyway, I could go on, but I was mainly impacted by how gentle Brandy's delivery was. It is CLEAR that she is meant to be in patient care and that she enjoys caring for people. I am so thankful to see an individual like her working in patient care. Thank you, Brandy. I hope life gives you the same compassion and care in return, and of course, endless daisies!
