Though my dad is not verbal, she spoke to him with such care, empathy, and grace that he felt comfortable nodding when he needed to.
Annik is a true example of a hard-working, caring, and compassionate nurse. Every time she walked into my dad’s room, she always greeted our family, went into detail about any updates to his condition for the day, and answered every single question with poise, professionalism, and a smile. Though my dad is not verbal, she spoke to him with such care, empathy, and grace that he felt comfortable nodding when he needed to. In addition, there was one day when my dad felt very ill and was retching a ton, and the doctors couldn’t figure out why he wasn’t feeling well but Annik was the one who discovered his nausea could have been caused by some air in his stomach from the NG tube, and upon fixing it, my dad started to feel better almost instantly.
Lastly, Annik is the HCP who initiated taking off my dad’s mittens and restraints. She noticed he was more aware, awake, and oriented; thus, he wouldn’t pull on any of his tubing. She made sure he had a sitter at first and slowly weaned off until restraints were no longer necessary. Walking into my dad’s room and seeing him without restraints made our family so happy, and we are so grateful that his nurse Annik, was able to make him so much more comfortable, where he can put his arms and hands where he wants to rather than just where he’s positioned. You can tell how much pride Annik takes in her work and caring for her patients, in addition to mentoring other nurses on the floor when they’re new and want to learn and shadow. Thank you to Annik for caring about my dad and looking after him with such poise, professionalism, and warmth. Her positive spirit and kind demeanor made my family’s experience in her unit so much better when she was on shift.
