She listened.
When I received chemo at Hollings, I met Kat. Kat introduced herself, asked what she could do to make me as comfortable as possible, and put my IV in so gently, quickly, and easily. She gowned and carefully and quickly checked meds received against my chart/wristband. She and her peer were prompt in changing out the different meds, explained what they were doing, and checked on me regularly.

When Kat saw I was upset after a message I received about yet another scheduling date/time issue with my future appointments, she listened. She talked to the charge nurse about the issue, and I ever so appreciate her kindness.

During my infusion in June, another patient near me had a medical episode. Staff came flying in as the alarm sounded.  Kat didn't run, but she was on the scene fast. She checked the patient, the issue. She never looked anything other than calm and competent. The patient was fine. Whew!

I saw Kat periodically over my next few infusions, although she wasn’t my nurse again. She always greeted me warmly, asked how I was feeling, and stopped to check on me during a couple more infusions. She even asked if I was able to resolve my scheduling issues!

She's the complete package of the ideal nurse!
