She has an unwavering dedication to improving patient care, advancing nursing practice, and shaping the future of nursing.
Dr. Chris Schindler exemplifies extraordinary leadership in the clinical setting, serves as a passionate advocate for the nursing profession within the community, and is an exceptional educator and leader within the Marquette University College of Nursing. She has an unwavering dedication to improving patient care, advancing nursing practice, and shaping the future of nursing. In addition to balancing a position with the Medical College of Wisconsin, Chris has worked hard to develop creative and engaging experiences for our students to participate in meaningful ways, supporting the Marquette Nurse characteristics of Social Justice and Leadership.
In addition to teaching, she chairs the Executive Committee, leads a “big idea” strategic plan and champions study abroad courses. Most importantly, she makes time to build relationships with students. She started a student advocacy organization, Team Enough, which works to end gun violence. The workshop she created this semester, educating the graduate students on ways to promote firearm safety in their clinical practice, was a truly valuable experience. Students were able to simulate discussions of firearm safety and were able to see and work with some of the options for safe firearm storage. Taking a large group of students to the seat of state government in Madison was an amazing experience not only for students but faculty as well.
She brings her dog Winnie to campus as the official CON emotional support dog. Chris and Winnie support students by being present between classes and available for walks. It is with great honor that I nominate Dr. Christine Schindler for the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurse Educators.
