Tuesday started out like any other work morning. I left before my husband to go to work. I was at work when I got the call no one wants to get. My husband was on his motorcycle, and a car pulled in front of him, smashing his right side into the vehicle. Transferred from Baxter Health to Mercy with a broken right hip, a dislocated right hip, a fracture in the femur, a fracture in his right tibial, and a broken leg. This is where Makayla comes in. She was so attentive to my husband’s needs. She was so compassionate, caring. Providing the most excellent care anyone could ask for. Not only did she make my husband feel comfortable, she did the same for me, his wife, and our daughter. Her care was gentle when turning him, changing his bedding, making sure he had everything from ice water to blankets, to making sure his pain was under control. My husband had never had an enema in which she had to give him one. Again, telling him step by step every step of the way what she was doing and why. Making him feel so comfortable and at ease. I believe she deserves this award as she has all the qualities of an excellent nurse. Let me say my husband was quite apprehensive about the enema, and Makayla really made him feel at ease.
