I would like to nominate Danielle for the DAISY Award for Excellence in recognition of her professionalism, composure, and clinical judgment during a complex and high-stress situation.

During a clinical rotation, Danielle was present in a patient’s room when the patient experienced a seizure. She remained calm and composed while collaborating effectively with the care team, including physicians, demonstrating maturity beyond her experience level.

In a separate but related event, Danielle encountered a neurologist who was reviewing video footage as part of quality monitoring, particularly regarding timely neuro checks. When questioned, Danielle exemplified professionalism and integrity by appropriately responding within the limits of her scope as a student, respectfully acknowledging that she was following her assigned nurse and was not fully aware of all details. She communicated transparently and avoided making any assumptions or statements that could have inappropriately reflected on the care team. Following the interaction, she promptly and professionally informed her nurse about the neurologist’s concerns, facilitating open communication within the team.

This situation showcased Danielle Blackburn's ability to navigate difficult conversations with poise, advocate for patient safety, and collaborate respectfully with the interprofessional team. Her actions reflect critical thinking, sound clinical judgment, and the values we strive to instill in all of our nursing students.

She truly embodies the spirit of the DAISY Award.
