Nurse Aishleen O’Brien at the medical genetics clinic has been outstanding in assisting us with putting all the pieces together and resolving the intake missteps that have been preventing us from effectively engaging with Seattle Children's. Her affect is compassionate, professional, and has humanized this process. Aileen is thorough and can filter out a complex issue, clearly understanding which parts of the medical records are most valuable for each provider that touches our case, and ensuring that communication is effectively executed. Not only did she pull together the intake information Seattle Children's already had for our cases, she was able to reach out to the other providers offices we have seen outside of Seattle Children's and successfully obtain records that we have been requesting for weeks without success, despite having all the appropriate ROIs in place. Like many families that Seattle Children's sees, we have been complex consumers of the medical system for many years, and Aileen stands out as one of the best nurses we have engaged with. Having kids with special needs is complicated in its own right, but learning how to be our own case manager has probably been the biggest barrier we have faced. Nurses like Aishleen O’Brien, who are intuitive, compassionate, and masters of their craft, are essential to the functioning of the system.
