Where do I begin?
One scenario is wanting to describe Dr. Clement's unwavering dedication, mentorship, and profound commitment to advancing nursing education and forensics. From my first class as his student in the spring of 2024 to present day, I would not be the student I am today or have the impact I will have as a forensic professional without his willingness to mentor, guide, and inspire. His constructive but thoughtful feedback on my many assignments, and the encouragement to go further and do better. The Zoom call that he set up to help me process through pursuing DNP or Phd next, joining the Academy of Forensic Nursing, becoming a part of an AFN Special Interest Group, serving on the AFN Financial Oversight Committee, and potentially publishing. All of these amazing things I am a part of as I near the finish of my MSN Forensics at A&M are due to Dr. Clements and his example of excellence, his belief in his students, and his willingness to take time to email, take a phone call, and guide. As a first-generation college student, he is undeniably one of the most influential people in my career and life. His devotion and willingness to bring the rest of us along on this amazing adventure called nursing will impact patients and nurses for generations. Dr. Clements is a current-day Florence Nightingale and the epitome of devotion and nursing as an art.
"Nursing is an art, and if it is to be made an art, it requires an exclusive devotion as hard a preparation as any painter's or sculptor's work; for what is the having to do with dead canvas or dead marble, compared with having to do with the living body, the temple of God's spirit? It is one of the Fine Arts: I had almost said, the finest of Fine Arts." -Florence Nightingale.
