In the face of danger, her only concern was my husbands well well-being.
My young husband was an unfortunate victim of a motorcycle accident. While he is normally a very peaceful man, his injuries turned him into someone I’ve never seen before. He was loudly shouting profanity and was violent. When admitted, he was rude and dangerous to himself and others.

However, on that Sunday night, I stood by helplessly and watched him physically assault our nurse, who was, for his safety, trying to get him back in bed and to catch him from falling after he was determined to get up and walk around. He held her against the bathroom wall and placed his hands on her in ways that truly scared me. The things he was shouting at her made me ashamed and embarrassed.

This nurse was a Godsend. She was actively getting assaulted by my confused husband, and her only concern was his safety. She never yelled or reacted negatively. She talked to him in a calm manner and kept hold of him so he wouldn’t fall. In the face of danger, her only concern was my husbands well well-being. She never once blamed him or treated him differently afterwards.

Even when I apologized, she said it was okay, and her only concern was him falling and getting any more hurt. When we were being moved out of the ICU, my now sane husband took the time to apologize to her, and all she could say was, “It wasn't your fault, I am just truly glad you weren’t hurt”. Her composure during my husband's attack was the best thing I’ve seen a nurse do yet. She honestly cared about my husband more than herself. And the fact that she did not blame him at all, with no hard feelings afterwards, has put my faith in my local healthcare.
