Without hesitation, he sat down with me, offering words and encouragement that were exactly what I needed to hear. He didn’t just treat me as a patient; he treated me as a person with dignity, respect, and heartfelt care.
During one of the most challenging times in my life, Nurse Jose became more than just a caregiver - he became my source of comfort, strength, and unwavering support. His dedication to his patients is nothing short of extraordinary, and I am beyond grateful for the kindness, compassion, and expertise he has shown me.
From the moment I had arrived at the hospital, Nurse Jose went above and beyond to ensure that I was fully heard, valued, and cared for. He took the time to explain procedures in a way that eased my anxiety, patiently answering every question with sincerity and reassurance. His gentle presence and calm demeanor turned my hospital stay from a time of uncertainty into one filled with hope and encouragement. What truly sets Nurse Jose apart is his ability to blend professional excellence with genuine humanity. There was a moment when I was feeling completely overwhelmed, uncertain about my recovery, and struggling emotionally with my divorce. Without hesitation, he sat down with me, offering words and encouragement that were exactly what I needed to hear. He didn’t just treat me as a patient; he treated me as a person with dignity, respect, and heartfelt care. He made me feel seen and like I mattered. Beyond his compassion, Jose embodies the highest standards of nursing excellence. His meticulous attention to detail, quick problem-solving, and seamless collaboration with the medical team ensured that I received the best possible care. Even on the busiest days, he never let his workload diminish his kindness- he checked in, adjusting pillows, making my bed, and making sure I had everything I needed to make me comfortable.
Nurse Jose’s extraordinary dedication reminds me that nursing is more than just a profession - it’s a calling. He exemplifies everything the DAISY Award stands for: compassion, advocacy, and commitment to making a difference in the lives of patients. I cannot think of a nurse deserving more than Jose of this award, and I hope this nomination serves as a small token of my appreciation for the tremendous impact he has had on my journey.
Thank you, Nurse Jose, for the incredible care you have given me. I will forever be grateful, patient.

I want to nominate Jose for multiple reasons.
1st. His humanity and sensitivity with his patients, the way he cares goes above and beyond, exceeds all the expectations some could imagine when it comes to caring for another human being. Since I met him, we connected instantly! Every time I have to come for treatment always ask for Jose to be my nurse, he’s funny. We laugh a lot and he makes me forget that I’m in a hospital, the only bad thing is that I stay longer than he’s 3-day shift and I won’t see him, maybe until his next shift if I'm still in the hospital. I don’t have to call for him; he always comes to check on me, even though I don’t need anything.
My last admission around May, I was just ready to go home, and the doctor decided to do an IT chemo basically when I had everything ready to go, I had a bad reaction to the doctor's decision I started crying and Jose was crying with me, hugging me trying to make me feel better, his sensibility is truly genuine, and his humanity is sincere.
He deserves more than just an award. I know every single patient who has Jose will have the same experience that I have had. He enjoys his job and he does it with love and care for every single patient he’s in charge, he’s a hard worker doesn’t complain I only see him working working working, I started my treatment at another hospital and then I got transfer to awesome Medical City Dallas, and every time I know I’m coming back, I don’t worry about nothing because, I know I’ll be and good hands, and of course I will have my favorite and top nurse, Jose Otero!! My family is very pleased to have Jose in charge of my stay because they already know him; he’s very famous! Even back home in my home country!!!! They ask for Jose, like when you ask for another family member of our family! How is Jose? Is he there with you today? Is he working today? All those questions are about how important he is to us; words can’t express how grateful I am for such an amazing human being.
Thank you, Jose, my love goes out to you!
Best nurse ever!
