She didn't think it was right that the patient was dying alone in our department without any family at bedside, so she decided to stay in that patient's room and hold his hand until he passed away.
Compassionate, patient, intelligent, honest, are just a few adjectives that I would use to describe Libby as a nurse. She has worked in our emergency department for over 3 years and in that short period has become an amazing colleague, preceptor, and charge nurse. She goes above and beyond for her patients and her fellow nurses. She always stops to ask how you are doing and makes sure everyone is well taken care of.
Her compassion for her patients is something that I wish to emulate. I remember her taking care of a patient that was flown in from halfway across the state to our facility for higher level of care. That patient ended up passing away in the emergency department due to medical futility. I like to believe this patient passed away peacefully because of Libby. I am proud to call Libby my colleague and friend.
