Most would say they broke the mold when they made her.
Margaret is a one-of-a-kind nurse. Most would say they broke the mold when they made her. Her level of compassion and caring for her patients is on a whole other level. I want to tell you the story of "G". G was a patient of ours here on obs. We typically keep our patients for a short stay. Due to circumstances out of everyone's control, G stayed with us here on obs for over 90 days. Margaret and G created a special bond.
Margaret would ask G what kind of flowers she wanted when she came back to work, and Margaret would make that happen. She brought whatever G wanted, within reason, even though I firmly believe Margaret would have tried to sneak an elephant in here if G asked for it. G celebrated her birthday here with us and Margaret made sure everyone knew and reminded us all to acknowledge it to G.
When the time came for G to be transferred to another facility, we all knew Margaret and G both would take it hard. I immediately notified Margaret of the transfer because she was off work that night. The first comment was, "Don't forget her flowers and I need the phone and address to where she is going."
Once G was settled in at the new facility and Margaret was able to go see her, nothing was stopping her. Not even a bridge that she told us scared her to death every time she crossed it. With each visit, G made her requests and Margaret delivered. G was alone. No family, just us. She was giving up. Margaret saw the decline and knew she had to do something. Margaret goes above and beyond for her patients, and I feel very much deserves recognition.
