Her compassionate approach ensures that every patient feels seen, heard, and understood, while families find comfort and reassurance in her presence.
It is an honor to nominate an Extraordinary Nurse, whom I referred to as “Compassionate Listener”. She is no other than Nurse Lesley Conchas. She has a unique gift---the ability to truly listen to the words of us (patient and family).
I will never forget Nurse Lesley. She wasn't always on duty with the baby, but when she was assigned, I could really feel her quality care for the baby. The baby was intubated again at that time, and she was one of the ones watching over the baby. In our first encounter, what I really liked about her was that she listened to me---while I was talking, she waited for me to finish, and she remembered everything I said that was for the baby because it came from a toxic situation. She even shared my reminders with her fellow nurses. While I was inside the PICU, I could see that she was immediately carrying out my instructions, and I loved her being so attentive to the baby's needs. I didn't need to call her anymore; she came to me herself to help. For me, it was so nice to feel that even though what she had been through was difficult, I saw that she was taking good care of the baby, and my fears that something might happen to the baby disappeared. She was focused on taking care of the baby. In our patient's family, we feel this and always look for her when the nurse on duty changes - the nurse who is attentive to the baby's needs because he can't talk yet. I only saw her walk away from the baby once, so I was reassured. I must admit that the next day I looked for her again, but she had already returned to the ICU.
Her compassionate approach ensures that every patient feels seen, heard, and understood, while families find comfort and reassurance in her presence. She truly embodies the heart of caring, and this recognition is a testament to her exceptional service
