What stood out the most was Becky’s empathy. She was humorous, attentive, and deeply human in her approach. In a moment where I felt helpless, she made me feel like my aunt was not only safe but deeply cared for.
I would like to nominate Becky Maupin from TNICU as a deserving recipient of the DAISY Award. This nurse demonstrated clinical skill, compassionate care, exceptional service, and commitment to excellence. I would like to share the detailed story about why this nurse is so special.
When a loved one undergoes a serious medical procedure, you often believe deep in your heart that no one can care for them the way you can. That belief was gently, powerfully challenged when my 83-year-old aunt was placed under the care of Nurse Becky during her recovery from brain surgery.
My aunt, typically warm, patient, and firm in her ways, emerged from surgery transformed, understandably demanding, impatient, and unapologetically feisty. What could have been a tense and overwhelming experience was instead met with calm, grace, and expert care, thanks to Becky.
Becky met my aunt exactly as she was. From refusing pain medication and treatments to asserting her preferences loudly and frequently. She is not an easy patient. Becky never faltered. She demonstrated incredible patience, never showing an ounce of frustration. She explained every procedure and answered every question, mine and my aunt’s, with clarity, compassion, and genuine respect.
What stood out the most was Becky’s empathy. She was humorous, attentive, and deeply human in her approach. In a moment where I felt helpless, she made me feel like my aunt was not only safe but deeply cared for.
I truly believe God placed Becky in our path at just the right time. She embodies the very essence of what the DAISY Award represents: exceptional clinical skill paired with extraordinary compassion.
It would be an honor to see Nurse Becky recognized for the impact she made on our family and for the unwavering care she gave to my strong-willed, beloved aunt. Thank you for your consideration.
