His compassionate nature creates a strong bond with his patients, making them feel cared for, respected, and at ease throughout their experience.
I am honored to nominate Joseph Castillo, RN, for the DAISY Award for Nursing, in recognition of his exceptional care, dedication, and the positive impact he has on both his patients and colleagues. Joseph has been an integral member of the Pre-op & PACU team since January 2017 and is an exemplary nurse who combines clinical expertise, compassionate care, and strong interpersonal skills in all that he does.
Joseph’s clinical skills are outstanding, and his ability to apply sound judgment and critical thinking in even the most challenging situations is truly impressive. His proactive approach enables him to anticipate potential concerns and address issues before they escalate, ensuring a smooth and safe experience for his patients. His charting is meticulous, capturing the patient journey in a clear and accurate manner, which speaks to his commitment to thorough and transparent patient care.
In addition to his clinical excellence, Joseph’s relational skills are remarkable. His compassionate nature creates a strong bond with his patients, making them feel cared for, respected, and at ease throughout their experience. This ability to connect with patients also extends to his colleagues, where he consistently fosters a positive and supportive work environment. He is a constant advocate for safe patient care and is dedicated to improving clinical practices for the benefit of all.
Joseph has also demonstrated leadership in various roles within the department. As a TTP Preceptor this year, he has played a vital role in onboarding new nurses, offering patience and thoughtful guidance to ensure their success. His contributions to the Unit-Based Team (UBT) have been invaluable, where he actively participates in shared decision-making and provides insightful input that helps shape the direction of clinical practices. Most recently, Joseph’s professionalism was highlighted when he met with a Joint Commission surveyor, where he was an exemplary representation of how a PACU RN should practice.
We are truly fortunate to have Joseph as part of the West LA Pre-Op and PACU team. His clinical expertise, compassionate care, and leadership qualities make him a deserving candidate for the DAISY Award, and I wholeheartedly recommend him for this honor. Joseph exemplifies the very best of nursing, and his contributions to patient care and the nursing profession are outstanding.
